And don't forget those idioms! I worked at a community college that offered ESL classes for newly arrived immigrants. One day a young woman stopped me and asked, in slow and carefully pronounced English, where an office listed on a paper she held was located. Without thinking much about the directions I gave, I instructed her to "head down" that way, and then "hang a right" at the first hallway. I looked at her for confimation of her understanding and she had a look of horror on her face: she mimed a noose around her neck and asked, "hang a right, with my head down?" Oh my goodness, that was such an important lesson for me! Big fan of Ismo!

Having English as my second language, I can laugh and agree with this comic. All those complexities listed kept my listeners in stitches for at least the first five years of my life in the United States even though I was serious and not doing stand-up comedy.

The fact that some people can’t distinguish between etymology and entomology bugs me in ways I can’t put into words 🙄

This post certainly brightened my day! Of course, it made me think of others words that I probably shouldn't write in this post.....

Lol the license plate reminds me of a sticker I got in Alaska about 6 years ago: I gotta P! And it had a ptarmigan on it! I still have it because it cracked me up!
