Words of Texture Help With the Sense of Feel
Relying on the visual sense when writing is very easy to do. It’s the sense that’s most immediate, and we naturally turn to it when we are showing what happened, then what happened. I’ve been thinking about words that help us focus on other senses. This week I created a list of texture words. If you’ve taken a writing workshop with me, you probably know that I usually include revising, simply as part of the writing process. I’ll say “Add a color,” for example, which is a great reminder to keep your writing sensual.
I’ve done a couple of workshops in the past week, and I’ve been including “Add a texture.”
This texture list is not fancy, but I thought I’d drop it here for you. I’ve left plenty of room to add more words.
