Another timely and beautiful post, Janisse! And yes your photo from 2020 is just great. I love this - let me in! I am, of course, very sad about President Biden. He’s just such a great guy and a hugely consequential President, especially for Climate, but yes it was time. Indeed, it will be revolutionary if Kamala Harris wins the White House. We all need to give her our full support in every way possible.

I 100% agree, Parjit. The time has come.

Kamala has loyally documented her days on instagram. Her dedication to equality and women’s reproductive rights is potent. She is a master and a lover. As you say “radical compassion”… that’s Kamala. She walks Wendell Berry’s talk: Be joyful though you have considered all the facts.

Janisse, I love your photo!!♥️

Oh, I should have checked Instagram. I have missed her for a few years now. Thanks for the tip, Katharine.

Story is STRONG in this election cycle. Thus far there has been an ailing grandpa who didn’t want to let go of his car keys, an assassination attempt (which in my opinion has too many dangling threads but it worked great for effect at last week’s RNC), J.D. Vance’s story with his Hillbilly Elegy memoir (read it when it came out, couldn’t finish it, but I listened to the audiobook last week & remembered why), and then a sharp turn of events over the weekend which has led to a strong black woman on the ticket. WOW! All this & I continue to abstain from Facebook. Story is EVERYTHING! It is myth, it is legend, & it is unfolding before our very eyes!

She is whip smart and will shred him if he debates her!

Never dismiss the power of story. Kamala Harris is a great antidote to business as usual. When I say business as usual, I mean that our society is controlled by geriatric people of privilege - most of them white males. From Donald Trump to Mitch McConnell to “captains of business and industry” they are dead trees still standing.

What an interesting metaphor--dead trees still standing.

I love this edition of The Rhizosohere for many reasons. How beautifully you wove YOUR story into the stories you told from others. You’ve told us exactly who you are and what you value in a gentle, unassuming way. Thank you.

And JD Vance is an excellent example of why you need to tell your story authentically.
