Nobody else has seen what I’m about to show you.
It’s a short video produced by my son, Silas Ray-Burns, for a Kickstarter I’m running for my new book. Silas is a fine videographer, and I was in heaven working with him on this.
The book is Craft & Current: A Manual for Magical Writing. It’s about how to craft and how to magic.
If you’re interested in this book, the way to get it first is through Kickstarter. The campaign launches on June 4, 2024 and will run for 11 days. That means for 11 days people have a chance to purchase the book as a way to “back” it. Think of it as a new product, and Kickstarter tumbles it into the marketplace.
Toward the end of June I’ll mail out books to the backers. Later in the summer I’ll make the book available on my website.
I plan to talk more about video-making on The Rhizosphere at a later date, and then we can think about why people trust video more than words. Question: Would it be helpful to get Silas on a Zoom in order to get some hints on videography? Let me know if this is something that interests you.
For now, see what you think.
Seven Days Until the Kickstarter
Feel free to hop over to KS right now and check out the landing page. You’ll find a button there: Notify Me On Launch. If you click it, KS will send you a message on June 4 that alerts you that the campaign is open. You may have to register with a profile—I’m not sure. Thank you for supporting me with this.

I’ll Be in Eatonton, Georgia on June 4
On June 4th I will be joining the Georgia Writers Museum at The Plaza Arts Center to discuss The Woods of Fannin County, which is based on an unbelievably true story.
Read more and register on the GWM website.
The museum is giving away two free tickets, I noticed today on their Facebook page. You have to tag friends. So far only four people have entered.

Wildcat
Angela Gaskell let me know that there’s a new film out about Flannery O’Connor titled “Wildcat,” based after her short story of the same title.
Here’s a link to see the trailer…with a limited release right now.
Thank You
Thanks to everybody who’s putting the word out about the Kickstarter. I’ll be doing a talk later in the summer to report on how this works as a business venture. Stay tuned for that.
